The shots are made by Sanofi Pasteur and the swine flu vaccine have were distributed across the USA. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most of the vaccine have already been used. The 800,000 recalls were reported from young children (ages 6-Month to 3-Year-Old).

Dr. Anne Schuchat, a CDC flu expert, stressed that parents do not need to do anything or to worry if their child got one – or even two – of the recalled shots. The vaccine is safe and effective, she said.

The recall is due to the strength of the Swine Flu vaccine. Tests have been done before the shots were shipped and it was shown that the vaccines were strong enough. However, tests which have done weeks later indicated the strength had fallen slightly below required levels.

According to Health Officials, young children are supposed to get two doses, spaced about a month apart. Also, children who got need to get vaccinated again, even if they got two doses from the recalled lots

Swine flu vaccine has been available since early October, and 95 million doses have been distributed in the United States.

He authorized his health chief with more power such as letting hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and avoid the virus from infecting others.

The declaration comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government’s initial, only 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October.

Since April, more than 1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died from swine flu (H1N1 Influenza) and the disease has spread widely to 46 states. So far only 11 million doses of the vaccine have gone out to health departments, doctor’s offices and other providers, according to the CDC.

More than 70 countries are now reporting cases of human infection with Swine Flu. The amount of reported cases have been increase rapidly over the past few weeks, but many of the cases reported had links to travel or were localized outbreaks without community spread. The WHO designation of a pandemic alert Phase 6 reflects the fact that there are now ongoing community level outbreaks in multiple parts of world.

Dr. Margaret Chan (Chief of WHO) stressed that Phase 6 indicates only geographical spread and does not denote an increase in severity. WHO characterizes the pandemic’s severity as “moderate,” but Chan warned that the virus “can change the rules, without rhyme or reason, anytime.”

On the other hands, Prof. Oxford also said the Swine Flu Virus might evolve into a more dangerous strain in the future. “That is always a possibility with influenza virus,” he said. “We have to watch very carefully to see what this virus does.”
